Bert Uchino receives National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute grant

Bert's grant proposal is entitled "Understanding relationship ambivalence and its links to cardiovascular health."

This grant is a collaborative project with Drs. Brian Baucom, Timothy Smith, Samantha Joel (Department of Psychology), and Matthew Rondina (Department of Internal Medicine).  The main aim will be to test a theoretical model linking ambivalence in relationships to cardiovascular health.  It will test important antecedent processes (e.g., early family environment) and maintenance factors (e.g., commitment) to examine why such relationships are harmful and the conditions under which its negative influences might be mitigated.

  Matt Euler, Trafton Drew and Brennan Payne receive Research Instrumentation Fund support

Matt, Trafton, and Brennan were successful in receiving Research Instrumentation Fund support for a new high-density, high-impedance EEG system, worth more than $102,000, for use in our new shared 9th floor lab.

Feea Leifker, Craig Bryan, AnnaBelle Bryan and David Rozek receive Bob Woodruff Foundation grant

Feea, Craig, AnnaBelle, and David are collaborating on a grant to support the National Center for Veterans Studies R & R program.  The R&R program is an intensive, two-week treatment program for service members and veterans diagnosed with PTSD conducted in partnership with the National Ability Center (NAC), a nonprofit recreational and adaptive sports center located in Park City, Utah. Service members and their families are invited to stay at the NAC and receive treatment at no cost, other than transportation to Utah. Veterans meet with clinicians for individual CPT sessions each morning for 12 days. In the afternoons, the NAC invites veterans and their families to engage in a variety of recreational activities. The primary goal of the program is to provide evidence-based treatment for PTSD to veterans and military personnel that might not otherwise have the means or desire to access quality mental health care. In so doing, they aim to reduce the severity of PTSD symptoms. Additionally, they hope to improve relationship and family functioning among veterans and their families by reducing PTSD symptoms and providing them with an atmosphere of recovery. This grant will cover the costs of psychological treatment for up to 36 military personnel and veterans.

Craig Bryan and the National Center for Veteran Studies receive grant from United States Army Medical Research and Material Command

Craig and his team at the National Center for Veterans Studies have received a major new grant to support an RCT of his groundbreaking work in suicide prevention among military personnel.  The project is entitled, "Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (BCBT) Replication Trial," and the award is for $4.9M.

Craig Bryan, David Rozek, Feea Leifker and AnnaBelle Bryan were awarded a partnership between the National Center for Veterans Studies and the National Ability Center for the STRIVE Initiative (Suicide & Trauma Reduction Intiiative for Veterans)

Craig was awarded more than $3,000,000 from Boeing Company for a partnership between the National Center for Veterans Studies and the National Ability Center for the STRIVE initiative (Suicide & Trauma Reduction Initiative for Veterans). In addition to providing effective treatments to veterans free of cost, the new funding will support the training of 1000 mental health professionals in 11 states. Co-Investigators include David Rozek, Feea Leifker, and AnnaBelle Bryan. Congratulations to Dr. Bryan and all members of the NCVS for this outstanding accomplishment and their continued efforts through research and advocacy to reduce suicide rates among our veterans.
